After their very successful stint on the most recent season of X Factor UK, the Filipino girl group 4th Impact comprised of four sisters has quickly won over hearts all around the world. But, did you know that before they appeared on X Factor 4th Impact had five members?

In a recent interview, Almira, Mylene, and Celina(Irene wasn’t present) dished on their origins as a singing group, and we learned that the four girls have two other siblings. The girls have a younger brother who is 9, and an elder sister who is 29 and used to sing with them!

It turns out that when the 4th Impact sisters started singing together, they had five members, but their eldest sister decided to focus on her studies in order to become a nurse. So, the four other girls continued on without her, and used their relative success to help pay for the eldest girl’s tuition.

In addition to learning that the group once had five members, we now know that before they appeared on X Factor 4th Impact had had at least three different names for their act. The group started out calling themselves the Cercado Sisters, then became the Gollayan Sisters, and finally started calling themselves 4th Power before they took the name that we now know them by.

The girls’ first real competition was on the show Fam Jam by Kitchie Benedicto. Known at the time as the Cercado Sisters, they took third place in the QTV-11 show.

Before they’d ever been on television or a part of any competition, 4th Impact came together through their love of karaoke. Mylene shared, “Between us siblings, we really love karaoke,” before adding that Almira was the first of them to start singing.

According to Mylene, Almira was given a scholarship to take voice lessons for a year, and would come home and share what she learned with her sisters. Almira would perform in singing contests, while Mylene, Celina, and Irene would dance together for contests at fiestas.

Then, one day, at a birthday party, the girls’ aunt started teasing the three dancers and asked if they could sing like their sister Almira. The girls showed off their own singing skills and how much they had learned from their sister, and started singing together from then on.
