Fans of George R. R. Martin’s A Song Of Ice And Fire (ASOIAF) book series have been on edge for years as they wait for the release of the next novel in the series, “Winds of Winter.”

Willing to grasp at anything that points to the novel coming out soon, rumors abound about the much anticipated book’s release date, and another glimmer of hope was seen when Martin made a recent cameo on Syfy channel’s “Z Nation.”

In the cameo, Martin is seen as a zombified version of himself autographing copies of a book that is titled “A Promise of Spring.” Fans of the author are suggesting that this could be a hint and that the title of the book is a hidden message, a subtle promise that “Winds of Winter” will be released in the coming spring of 2016, before the books’ TV series spin-off “Game of Thrones” premieres Season 6.

While it may just be fans grasping at straws, Martin has, throughout his written works, showed a passion for subtle foreshadowing and the idea that he might use this skill in real life to foreshadow the coming of “Winds of Winter” actually isn’t too far off to believe.

It’s been more than 4 years since the release of the last installment of the ASOIAF series that began in the mid-90s, and with George R. R. Martin himself saying that he would be less involved in screenwriting for the “Game of Thrones” TV show in an effort to buckle down and finish writing “Winds of Winter.”

With this promise, Martin’s fans are even speculating that “Winds of Winter” may already be in the publishing house, just waiting for the release date.

Whenever the novel will finally be released, Martin has promised to continue the series’ tradition of shocking twists and huge surprises, saying that he is considering a big, revealing twist for a long-time character in the novels. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he claimed that this twist “is going to drive your readers crazy”.
