What You Should Know About One Direction Splitting Up… For Now

One Direction’s final stage on their On The Road Again tour was an emotional one, both for Directioners and the members of the four-man band themselves.

The band — composed of Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Harry Styles — started their hefty OTRA tour back in February and have now recently closed the tour with a gig in Sheffield.

They reassured fans that this was not the end for them amidst persistent split rumours following announcements of their hiatus come 2016.

One such rumor implies that the break was brought forth by friction between two of the band’s members, Tomlinson and Styles, and that the hiatus is actually an excuse for the band to split up entirely.

There have been reports that claim the two members — affectionately dubbed ‘Larry Stylinson’ by fans — have had an ongoing rivalry over their careers and talent which ultimately caused the band to drive apart.

“Everyone involved in the band is well aware of the animosity between them,” revealed one insider. “It’s been central to everything else that came next with the band because there was suddenly a massive divide.”

Due to these allegations, fans have feared that the announced hiatus is actually a guise for a breakup. However, in light of their OTRA tour finale, One Direction have put their fanbase at ease, claiming they will return in due time.

“This is the end of the On The Road Again tour, not the end of One Direction,” said Payne at their final show.

“Please don’t forget us,” Styles said to the crowd. “We will always be here for you. You guys are the most incredible fans.”

One source close to the band informed MailOnline, “They all gave each other a big hug before they went on stage. It was very touching. The boys spent some time reminiscing about the last few years.”

Of the planned hiatus, the band reaffirmed their plans for next year, sharing Payne’s intentions of remaining in the music industry with music production and collaborations, along with Tomlinson’s plans of putting up his own record label.

The boys also addressed the departure of ex-bandmate Zayn Malik, stating how One Direction was never really [his] kind of bag.”

“It was hard,” said Tomlinson of Malik’s withdrawal. “I think maybe for me the most. But he wanted to be happy and he wasn’t.”

“He made that decision and he’s happy now,” added Horan. “We’re happy and everything’s worked out. It’s actually brought us — the rest of us — closer together.”

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Payne shared, “We sort of knew it was coming. We saw a lot of the signs, especially in a lot of the gigs abroad that we did. And it’s sad.”

Payne further divulged details of his One Direction life and how it ultimately affected his relationship with his now ex-girlfriend, Sophia Smith.

“Being on the tour all this year and being away from her was so hard,” he said. “We spent so much time apart. But in order to do right by somebody, sometimes it’s better not to do what your heart wants, but to do what’s better for them.”
