Watch Now: Stephen Curry Slays At NBA Season Opener

Stephen Curry. MVP of the 2014-15 NBA season. Plays for the Golden State Warriors. Considered by some to be the greatest shooter in NBA history, Stephen is back in the game and is back with a vengeance.

Curry got right back into the NBA rhythm on Tuesday night’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans, opening the match 8-11 for 22 points in the first 10 minutes of the first quarter and later raising that score to 24 by the end of the quarter. It is notably the most points scored by any player in the first quarter of a season opener in 20 years.

While his pace cooled down from there, Curry still wowed audiences with his swift moves, cutting through the New Orleans defense and scoring three-pointers at that.

Despite winning last year’s MVP title, Curry doesn’t seem to be in the running to be this year’s Most Valuable Player. In ESPN.com’s #NBArank, he landed as the fourth-best player, lagging behind other hotshots such as LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Kevin Durant.

Draymond Green, Curry’s teammate, offered a possible explanation as to why not that many people consider Curry fit to be MVP again.

“You know everything is always a year or two out,” said Green. “After one year, everybody’s not just going to change and say, ‘Steph Curry’s the best player in the league.’ It’s just now how it usually goes.”

Green also mentioned Curry’s improvement over the offseason, particularly with his offense.

“As crazy as it sounds, his ball handling continues to get better,” he said. “I think all pre-season and training camp he’s been doing a better job of getting the hole.”

Curry eventually claimed 40 points and 7 assists in just 29 minutes of play. If his performance at this match is any indication of his play for the rest of the season, then he is set for smooth sailing from here on out.
