It’s not uncommon for newly-christened athletes to spend their hard-earned cash right away. They make some big bucks, after all, and the same can be said for Brooklyn Nets rookie, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and his brother, Rahlir.
While some may use their wealth on designer brands or sports cars, the Hollis-Jefferson brothers decided to splurge on getting a house for their mother, who worked two jobs while raising her sons. The two have had a lifelong dream of finding a good place to live — someplace to call home — for their mother, and they managed to do just that.
“I think it’s every kid’s dream to be able to get their mom out of the situation they’re in,” said Rondae in a heartwarming video that captured the touching birthday surprise the brothers prepared for their mother.
The overwhelming gratitude was evident with tears running down their mother’s face as the two brothers revealed the house to her.
“To actually be able to show her the house and stuff on her birthday, it was a dream come true,” Rondae told New York Post. “It was a blessing.”
“She said it was her best birthday ever. That’s big in our eyes,” he continued. “Being able to change your mom’s life, to be able to put her in a comfortable situation… It makes that feeling in your heart go to ease.”
He added, “Instead of worrying about where your mom is going, what she’s doing, it puts you at ease knowing she has a place of her own, and that she has somewhere to lay her head at night. It’s pretty special.”
Of his newly-launched career with the NBA, Rondae said, “I haven’t really thought about the season starting. I say that because I still have to grind on here, we still have more practices to go through before then.”
“I don’t know how things are going to go. But I know I’m working every day to have a chance to compete out there. I’m just taking it one day at a time, and when that day comes, wish for the best.”
