Watch CCTV Footage: Mother of “Pastillas Girl” Shot Dead In Philippines

Maria Theresa Hernandez, mother of Philippine daytime show It’s Showtime’s Angelica Jane Yap — a.k.a. “Pastillas Girl” — was shot dead on Sunday night, November 29, in Caloocan City.

According to a report by ABS-CBN, Hernandez, accompanied by one of her daughters and niece, had just come from church. They were waiting for another companion at an eatery when the incident took place past 9pm. Hernandez was shot at close range by a gunman at the corner of Tagaytay Street and Cabatuan Street in Brgy. 131 in Caloocan City.

Herman Domingo, owner of the eatery, claimed that the suspect, before having bought something from his shop, said, “Ang ganda ni Ate. Pwede maging artista. (That lady is so pretty. She could be a celebrity.)”

The incident was captured via CCTV. Video footage shows the suspect walking near Hernandez, who was in a white shirt. Five minutes later, he fired a shot, hitting the right side of Hernandez’s head. The man later fled towards A. Bonifacio St. via motorcyle.

Hernandez was taken to the Chinese General Hospital but was pronounced dead at 9:20pm as medical staff were unable to save her. Tumping Fambian, a relative of Hernandez’s, claimed she had been receiving death threats, the source of which remain unknown.

Police investigators found 9mm shells from the crime scene. They are currently conducting an investigation and are on the search for the suspect.

Hernandez’s daughter, Angelica Jane Yap, rose to fame thanks to her viral video where she explained how to make pastillas (soft milk candy) whilst expressing frustration and bitterness towards her ex-boyfriend. It’s Showtime’s “Pastillas Girl” was their answer to GMA Network’s “Aldub”, featuring supercouple Alden Richards and “Yaya Dub” Maine Mendoza.

Yap has not released any statements regarding the unfortunate incident.
