Verizon Xperia Z2 spotted on Sony’s Korean website

Verizon Xperia Z2 spotted on Sony's Korean websiteSony Xperia Z2 is probably the best smartphone of the year, and it’s already available in many parts of the world. However, just like the past few years, Sony is having a hard time finding carriers to launch its flagship device. In fact, as of now, the only way Sony fans can get hold of the device is via the company’s official channel.

But there’s a small chance that this amazing flagship arrives on the big red carrier, Verizon, that is, if the leaked Verizon version of Xperia Z turn out to be real.

Earlier today, a Verizon Xperia Z2 was spotted on the Korean Sony website. While the Verizon logo on the back of the image was not as clear as last time, after closing up on the picture, one can be pretty sure that it’s the same red logo on the back. The phone in the image is drenched in rain, but the marking on the back surely looks like the typical Verizon logo.

As mentioned above, this is not the first time a Verizon Xperia Z2 has made the headlines, as sometime earlier this month, a similar image with the Verizon logo popped up on the internet. This was too via an official channel (Sony Xperia Google + account) and had the big old Verizon logo on top of the phone.

Given that two of these Verizon branded Xperia Z2s were spotted within a month, it’s quite likely that Sony and Verizon are teaming up for a surprise launch later this year. But then there’s the big question, why is Sony saying that Xperia Z2 will only be available through its official online stores? Maybe, Sony is still negotiating with Verizon.

But end of the day, a Verizon branded Xperia Z2 would definitely make Sony fans happy all over the country. Xperia Z2 is better than other competitors in many ways and fans would love to get their hands on one that too on their favorite carrier.

The partnership would benefit Sony too. Carrier locked phones are subsidized; therefore cheaper than unlocked ones and this will further help Sony compete with other flagships from rival manufacturers. Galaxy S5 and Apple iPhone 5S are going to be its fiercest competitors, but given a decent subsidized price and the hardcore specifications, fans might go with Sony this year.

But these are just speculations at the moment and unless either Verizon or Sony confirms the news, nobody can be sure whether the device would arrive via a carrier in the country.
