Are you a fan of US President Barack Obama? Then, go ahead and “like” him on Facebook! That’s right, the leader of the free world now has his own personal Facebook page that can be followed.
During the entire course of his presidency, Obama, along with his 20-member social media team, has made an effort to make himself more accessible to people of the nation, and one of the ways that he has done so is by expanding his presence on social media.
In May of this year, Obama notably became a more active user on Twitter, and his Twitter page now has about 5 million followers. It’s only natural that from there, he would eventually end up on Faceook, the number one most popular social media site in the world.
The description for Obama’s new Facebook page reads “Dad, husband, and 44th President of the United States.” You can see from the order of how he chooses to describe himself that he considers himself first and foremost a family man, which is commendable.
If you take a scroll though Obama’s timeline, you’ll see that despite the fact that the page only went online hours ago, it’s already been filled up with photos of President Obama’s achievements throughout the year, including his marriage to Michelle Obama in 1992 and being sworn in to office for his first and second terms of presidency.
In his first post, President Obama offers up his Facebook page “as a place where we can have real conversations about the most important issues facing our country – a place where you can hear directly from me, and share your own thoughts and stories.”
Obama then invites you to take a walk with him through his backyard, which just so happens to be a national park. In the video that he shares along with his first Facebook post, Obama describes the wildlife that he enjoys seeing in his yard which includes a fox, a hawk, and many squirrels, and addresses his admirable goal of preserving not only this park but national parks throughout America for his daughters, their own children, and generations to come.
