Steve Harvey Apologizes To PHILIPPIANS For Crowning Miss Colombia Instead Of Miss Philippines

It’s been a pretty bad day for Steve Harvey, the host of tonight’s Miss Universe Pageant which has just concluded. In what is being called the worst television moment of 2015, Harvey first crowned the wrong winner of the pageant and then in the apology he posted on Twitter, he misspelled Philippines.

As the competition drew to a close with Miss Colombia, Miss Philippines, and Miss USA as the finalists, Steve Harvey took to the stage to announce the winner. When he announced that Miss Colombia was the new Miss Universe, the audience broke into applause and cheers for the woman.

Unfortunately, Steve Harvey had messed up. Miss Colombia was actually the first runner up for the competition, not the winner. It wasn’t until Miss Colombia was already wearing the crown, though, that Harvey realized and announced his mistake.

Correcting himself, Harvey announced that the Miss Universe Pageant winner was actually Miss Philippines. The crown had to be removed from Miss Colombia’s head and transferred to the rightful winner.

Neither Miss Colombia nor Miss Philippines seemed to know what to do in the situation, and both looked quite uncomfortable on stage.

Steve Harvey took full responsibility for the mistake, saying that he misread the card. He held up the card which shows that Miss Columbia was meant to be the first runner up, not the winner, saying “This is exactly what’s on the card. I will take responsibility for this. It was my mistake. It was on the card… Please don’t hold it against the ladies.”

Harvey’s blunders would not end there, however, and he ended up making things worse for himself after he posted an apology on Twitter. In the apology, he apologized to both of the contestants involved in the mix up – however, he spelled both countries wrong.

In the tweet, he said, “I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia. This was a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful.”

Steve Harvey’s tweet has since been deleted, but not before it was re-tweeted and liked by thousands of people.

While we certainly feel bad for Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines, especially the former who had thought she was the new Miss Universe for a few brief moments, we have to muster up a little sympathy for Harvey as well. Mistakes like these are sure to leave a lasting impression on his career, and not a good one.
