‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Spoilers Revealed: New Character Stories, Enemies And More!

Stoked for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens? So are we. The film comes out on December 18 — so close, and not close enough. In preparation for the upcoming film’s release, here are a couple of details to get you started on what to expect from the latest instalment of the Star Wars franchise.

1. Mark Hamill will be reprising his role as Luke Skywalker.

Rumor has it that the movie will be revolving around the search for Luke and his lost blue lightsaber. While he is allegedly set to only appear in the final moments of the film, the character is slated to take a leading role in the next movie.

2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be directed by J.J. Abrams.

Creator of television hit Lost, Abrams was previously known for directing the Star Trek film redux. He took a cue from the original Star Wars film by casting two unknown leads.

3. Enter Rey and Finn, two new characters in the franchise.

23-year-olds Daisy Ridley and John Boyega are Abrams’ aforementioned unknown leads. Ridley, who is from west London, will play Rey: a tough scavenger who lives in a junkyard on a desert planet and later joins the Resistance fighting against the evil First Order.

Meanwhile, Boyega plays Finn, who seems to be quite close to Rey and is the hero seen in a stormtrooper outfit in the film trailer.

4. Rey and Finn may be related to old Star Wars characters.

However, Abrams has deliberately withheld just who Rey and Finn may be related to, keeping the details secret until the movie’s release.

5. Robot buds C-3PO and R2-D2 will be making a comeback.

Accompanying them is BB-8, a snowman-like droid that rolls like a ball. C-3PO and R2-D2 return as the franchise’s robot poster children as the film needs to keep its familiarity with old fans and newcomers alike, seeing as Star Wars: The Force Awakens is also a Disney movie (the company acquired Lucasfilms in 2012.)

6. Star Wars creator George Lucas handed control of Lucasfilms to Kathleen Kennedy.

This means Kennedy, now president of Lucasfilms, will be taking charge of the franchise’s upcoming trilogy of sequels. Lucas remained on board as creative consultant during the film’s early production stages.

6. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set 30 years after the events of Return of The Jedi.

Beloved characters from the original movie trilogy will be returning, including Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia — Luke Skywalker’s twin sister — and Harrison Ford as Han Solo, galactic smuggler and one of the Rebel Alliance’s leaders.

7. Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be followed by two more sequels.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will follow The Force Awakens. It is slated to hit theaters on December 16, 2016. Meanwhile, Star Wars: Episode VIII will be out on May 26, 2017. No release dates have been announced for Star Wars: Episode IX or for the third anthology movie. Additionally, a Han Solo anthology film is said to come out on May 25, 2018.
