Today, at Mobile World Congress (MWC) held at Barcelona, Sony unveiled the world’s first waterproof 10 inch tablet called the Xperia Z2 tablet. This latest device from Sony shares the same name as the Xperia Z2 smartphone which was released just a few hours ago.

Slimness and style has always been a plus point for Sony products and this particular tablet particularly focuses on these two points. Xperia Z2 tablet is thinner and lighter than its original version, which although a year old, is still the thinnest tablet in the market. The Z2 tablet is less than 6.4mm thin and is even 70grams lighter than the original version. This makes it lighter as well as thinner than its rival iPad Air.

The display on the device is also one of the best. The Z2 tablet comes with a live color LED display with the widest color gamut than any other mobile device. The screen is 10.1 inches long and comes with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,020 pixels with Bravia TV technology for bright color output.

Just like its sibling, it comes with a 2.3 GHz Quad Core Snapdragon 801 processor along with 3GB RAM and runs on the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat version. On the back, there’s an 8MP camera as opposed to the 20.1MP shooter on the Z2 Smartphone and on the front there’s a 2.2MP camera. Both the cameras feature Sony’s Exmor R sensor.

Unlike the original version, the speakers have been shifted to the front which will improve the audio output from the device. It also comes with Sony’s S-Force Surround Sound and Digital Noise Cancellation like the one found on the Z2 smartphone.  The tablet is waterproof too and is IP55/ IP58 certified. This makes it the first waterproof tablet (larger than 8 inches) in the market.

The device boasts of a 6,000 mAh battery which when coupled with Sony’s ‘Stamina Mode’ should be enough for long hours of usage. Sony has also smartly made it compatible with its Dual Shock controllers making it possible for users to play various games on the large 10.1 inch screen with ease and precision. The company is also offering 6 free movies with this new tablet from Sony Pictures which includes the recent movie ‘ Captain Philips’. Users will also get free access to Music unlimited for a month.

In every aspect, Sony Xperia Z2 tablet outperforms its rivals and companies like Samsung and Apple will have a hard time beating these specifications. Although Sony claims Z2 tablet will be available by March, it did not reveal the pricing of the device. More details coming soon.
