Sony to release a 12.9-inch tablet in Q1 2015?

Sony to release a 12.9-inch tablet in Q1 2015?Like smartphones, tablets too are increasing in size. We have seen many new tablets hit the market with over 8-inches in size in 2014. However, about a year back, 7-inch was considered to be the standard.

We recently came across a rumor which said that Apple was working on a very large screen tablet about 12.9-inches in size aimed at business users. Now, latest reports indicate that Sony might beat Apple to the release of a 12.9-inch tablet as the Japanese giant is said to be developing such a tablet which will soon enter into production.

According to Digitimes, this Sony tablet will be aimed at high end users and will be priced above $1000. The report claims that the tablet’s components have already been manufactured and hence, it is expected to go into mass production soon. If this is the case, then you can expect an announcement somewhere in the Q1 2015. The source further says that the device will be manufactured by Pegatron Technology, which also works with big names like Apple and Microsoft.

Given its high-end nature, the tech specs of the tablet are expected to be top-notch. The unnamed 12.9-inch Sony tablet is said to sport a resolution of 3840 x 2400 pixels. Further, it will be powered by a Qualcomm processor and will have an 8MP camera at the back. Sony’s devices have always been stylish and sleek and despite its large profile the tablet will reportedly measure 8.6 inches in thickness.

The source further reveals that Sony will be aggressive in the tablet market in 2015. This 12.9-inch tablet launch would mark one of the many tablets that the company will have in store for customers next year. This isn’t surprising given Sony’s recent exit from PC business in order to focus more on the existing businesses.

However, Sony won’t be the only manufacturer to bring out big tablets in 2015 as the report suggests that more OEMs will follow the suit. With many large screen tablets in the market, the demand for notebook computers could be affected.

This comes at a time, when we are waiting patiently for the rumored Apple iPad Pro which is said to have a 12.9-inch LCD display. Earlier it was said that Apple would release the tablet in Q1 2015, but due to production constraints, the Cupertino giant reportedly postponed the release to Q2 2015.
