For a long time, scientists have been trying to get in contact with extra-terrestrial beings.
At the annual meeting of The American Association for the Advancement of Science, scientists proposed an idea of sending messages in the direction of the closest stars to earth in order to contact aliens. Currently, researchers are trying to track radio signals from alien planets.
This new idea was proposed by scientist from the SETI institute (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence). Their project is called Active SETI.
Douglas A. Vakoch, director of SETI’s interstellar message composition, said that a reaction could be trigged if we let extraterrestrials know that we want to reach them. He believes that this would be the best strategy.
Seth Shostak, who is director of the Center for SETI Research at the SETI Institute, said that we need to transmit the content of the internet into the outer space. We can transmit large amount of texts, videos, sounds, and pictures. This content could enable aliens learn about our planet. To transmit the content, we should use a powerful laser instead of a radio transmitter, which would take a lot of time to send data into space. However, a powerful laser can transmit data into space at a very fast rate.
But, it seems that some people do not like this idea. Many believe that in using this method, we will be putting our planet in danger.
