The San Bernardino shooting currently stands with a death toll of 14 and at least 17 more people injured after gunmen stormed the Inland Regional Center, a care center for people who have developmental disabilities. As of now, two suspects in the shooting have already been killed by authorities; Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27.
Farook and Malik were identified as prime suspects in the San Bernardino shooting after the black SUV that was used as a getaway vehicle for the crime was traced back to an address registered to Farook as one of the residents.
According to the San Bernardino Police Chief, Jarrod Burguan, Farook had attended a holiday party that was held at the Inland Regional Center earlier in the day, before the San Bernardino shooting occurred, and apparently left the building “under circumstances that were described as angry” after a dispute took place.
Authorities believe that this attack was pre-planned, based on the weapons and clothing of the suspects and by the way the attack occurred.

The police caught up with Farook and Malik approximately 4 hours after the San Bernardino shooting occurred. The suspects were armed with both assault rifles and semi-automatic handguns. More than 20 officers were present when a shootout with the two suspects occurred.
Farook and Milik were both shot and killed. A police officer was also wounded in the shootout; however, it was non-fatal and it is believed that he will be fine.
Syed R. Farook had been employed by the San Bernardino County as an Environmental Health Specialist II in 2014. Farhan Khan, Farook’s brother-in-law, informed the public during a news conference that Farook worked for the health department.
Khan was shocked to hear the news about Farook, who is married to Khan’s sister, and expressed disbelief over what had occurred. Khan expressed his condolences for the victims and their families, saying “I cannot express how sad I am for what happened. I have no idea why he would do that. Why would he do something like this?”

Farook, who was born in the US, had recently been married. According to his coworkers, Farook had traveled to Saudi Arabia, returning with a wife that he had met online. The couple had a baby together. His coworker Patrick Baccari said that the family appeared to be “living the American dream.”
Very little is yet known about Tashfeen Malik, the other suspect who was killed during the shootout.
