Samsung Electronics has gone retro in this new age through introducing an Android-powered flip smartphone. The mobile device manufacturer could be experimenting to see if the market would still welcome the popular handset design from the not so distant past if it is integrated into a smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy Golden is not only a flip phone. It is also a dual-screen Android device that provides better mobile experience to users. The handset operates on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It has two 3.7-inch touch screens that are both Super AMOLED. The two displays are mounted back to back. The flip phone design facilitates access to the phone screen in open and closed positions.
Although the new flip phone bears the Galaxy name, it is not to be mistaken as part of the company’s popular Galaxy line, which includes the Galaxy S4 flagship. But it does not mean it falls inferior on features. It could still be a very useful and attractive smartphone.
The Galaxy Golden
The Galaxy Golden could be considered as a budget oriented handset. Although it comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, no one could describe it as featureless. First, the phone has a 1.9-megapixel front camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera. It has the full LTE capability as well.
Other features are quite handy. An FM radio is built in for users on the go. The 3.7-inch display comes just decent and appropriate for a flip phone. The handset has an 1820 mAH battery. Not surprisingly, the Galaxy Golden features an ‘Easy Mode,’ which helps newbies get oriented to a smarter phone through using a feature phone.
Samsung has announced that the new phone would be initially available in South Korea through two local major carriers. It would possibly be available in some other markets but not in the UK and the US.
The unveiling of Galaxy Golden in South Korea came just a week after Samsung introduced Hennessy handset to the Chinese market. This new handset comes with not just one but two 3.3-inch touch screens, each with 320 X 480 resolution and capacitive buttons.
It also comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system and a 5-megapixel rear camera. There is 1GB of random access memory and an expandable storage as there is a microSD slot. It may not be as sophisticated as the Galaxy S4 but it may be the introductory product to the popular flagship device of Samsung. One setback of Samsung Hennessy is that it lacks major connectivity features like Bluetooth, USB 2.0, and WLAN. Unfortunately, this smartphone also may not be sold in the US.
