Putin, Trump Forms Pact To Fight Cyber Crime – Then Trump Backtracks

It seemed like the US and Russia were going to form a surprise alliance to take down cyber crime, something the public thought they would never see. However, it might have been too surprising to be true, as the President of the United States has backtracked his comments, saying that an alliance cannot happen. Prior to the backtracking, the President said that he and Putin could form an impenetrable cyber crime group, which did raise some eyebrows.

“The fact that President Putin and I discussed a Cyber Security unit doesn’t mean I think it can happen. It can’t,” Trump said on Twitter. He then noted that an agreement with Russia for a ceasefire in Syria “can & did” happen, so that’s worth noting. The two met in Germany and discussed the cybercrime topic for about two hours, and it seemed like an alliance was being made, but that ended up not being the case.

Oddly enough, Trump even brought up the rumors about Russia meddling in the election, which was apparently denied. “I strongly pressed President Putin twice about Russian meddling in our election. He vehemently denied it. I’ve already given my opinion,” as reported by CNN. “President Trump said he’s heard Putin’s very clear statements that this is not true and that the Russian government didn’t interfere in the elections and that he accepts these statements. That’s all,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

When discussing his meeting on Twitter, Trump decided to take another shot at former President Barack Obama, which isn’t too surprising. “Putin & I discussed forming an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded…. ..and safe. “Questions were asked about why the CIA & FBI had to ask the DNC 13 times for their SERVER, and were rejected, still don’t… have it. Fake News said 17 intel agencies when actually 4 (had to apologize). Why did Obama do NOTHING when he had info before election.”
