PS4 outsells Xbox One by a considerable margin

PS4 outsells Xbox One by a considerable marginMicrosoft and Sony are the two main players in the gaming console market and each of its devices have their own set of strengths and weaknesses. Sony’s PS4 as well as Microsoft’s Xbox One were launched back in 2013, almost around the same time as each other, however, the overall sales figure as given by these companies clearly show that PS4 is winning the console war, at least at the moment.

Two weeks back, Sony sold its 7 millionth PS4, however, Microsoft only managed to ship around 5 million Xbox Ones since its launch. Given that Sony had only about a week’s head start for its PS4, the 2 million differences between the two consoles show that PS4 is outselling Xbox One by a considerable margin.

Overall Sales by the End of the Year

If Sony’s PS4 sells at the same pace as it is doing right now, then by the end of the year, there will be a huge difference between the sales of PS4 and Xbox. Sony is selling consoles at almost twice the rate as Xbox One, which will help PS4 beat Xbox by a very large margin by the end of the year.

Currently, Sony claims it has sold over 7 million PS4s. On the other hand, the 5 million figure given by Microsoft only tell the number of consoles shipped by the company. Now, there’s a high chance that many of these shipped consoles are not sold by the retailers which means the actual sales figure might be far less than 5 million. This surely puts PS4 in strong position.

Price Difference between Xbox One and PS4

The price difference between the two consoles has given PS4 an edge over Xbox One. In the home market, PS4 is around $100 cheaper than Microsoft’s Xbox One. Most of the customers opt for the cheaper option, even though PS4 does not include the PlayStation camera. So, the company’s decision to bundle the Kinect Sensor with Xbox may not be helping the sales of the console.

The Xbox exclusive Titanfall should have helped Microsoft to some extent, but experts say it’s not enough to compete with PS4.

End of the day, Microsoft should be concerned about the future of Xbox and should look for ways to somehow increase its sales. The most effective way would be to drop its price by around a $100, which will put it in direct competition with PS4 in terms of price.
