No Jab, No Pay: AUS Anti-Vaccination Parents Will Not Receive Childcare Benefits

A new law has passed in Australia that means starting next year, parents who choose not to immunize their children will no longer receive childcare benefits from the government, nor will they continue to receive rebates or the Family Tax Benefit A end-of-year supplement. The only exemptions will be those with medical reasons for not having their children vaccinated.

This “No Jab, No Pay” law is expected to have a big impact on the seven percent of parents who currently don’t vaccinate their children but are not registered conscientious objectors.

Liberal Democrats Senator David Leyonhjelm has shown his full support for the new no jab, no pay legislature, saying that childless families should not have to subsidize the lifestyles of those who choose to have children, and added that “The government is not your parent or your spouse – get over it.”

Leyonhjelm even went so far as to say he feels that most welfare payments for parents should be abolished altogether. Apologizing to and thanking childless Australians, he pointed out how childless members of society get almost no benefits, pay more taxes, use less health services, but are still forced to subsidize the lifestyles of those who choose to have children.

“You work for more years and become more productive than the rest of Australia. You pay thousands and thousands of dollars more tax than other Australians. You get next to no welfare,” Senator Leyonhjelm noted, adding “But you pay when other people get pregnant, you pay when they give birth, you pay when they stay at home to look after their offspring”.

The no jab, no pay legislature is hoped to motivate the conscientious objectors, registered or not, to change their ways and seek proper immunizations for their children. The law is also estimated to save the Australian government more than $500 million AUS dollars over the next four years.
