Motorola under the ownership of Google was doing quite well. The company released two handsets in 2013 namely Moto X and Moto G and both of them were well received by consumers. Sales were strong and the company’s Moto brand easily took over the iconic Droid name.
While we are eagerly waiting for the successors of these devices, we have some good news. According to TKTech News, Motorola has not two but 8 devices in the pipeline for launch this year. The website states that the company will start the launch next month and finally unveil 8 devices by December 2014.
This means we’ll have many Moto devices to choose from by the end of the year, and if they all are as good as the current two devices, we are in for a treat.
This move was expected because Motorola, even with its two successful releases was not able to capture a lot of market share. It still lags behind by a considerable margin as compared to giants like Samsung and Apple. So, having 8 devices in the market would surely help its share grow.
The 8 new devices expected to hit the market this year are the Droid, Droid Maxx, Droid Turbo, Moto G2, Moto X+1, Moto X Play, Moto S and the new Nexus. The source even adds that one of these smartphones will be used for star wars promotion.
We already know the two devices that we’ll probably see next month, the Moto G2 and Moto X+1. The company has already scheduled an event in September where we’ll most likely see these new smartphones. This event will be followed by a number of other events where Motorola will showcase the other 6 devices.
While 8 new devices from Motorola sounds good, in reality we may see only 6 of these make it to the market. The source says that some of the products are backup devices, i.e. they will only be announced if the earlier product fails. For example, if the Moto X+1 does well, then the company may scrap Droid Turbo. Also, Motorola may unveil only one of Moto X Play and Moto S, depending upon consumer’s screen size preference.
We’ll also see a new Nexus device, code named Shamu. If rumors are to be believed, the device will come with Snapdragon 805 Chipset, 3GB RAM and a 5.9 inch display.
All in all, we can expect a number of interesting devices from Motorola in the second half of 2014.
