After LG denied any involvement in the Nexus program this year, there have been plenty of speculations about the new OEM for the Google branded phone. However a majority of these leaks and rumors point at Motorola as the next Nexus maker.
The sheer numbers of leaks and reports that have cropped up on the internet have made us believe that the Nexus 6 or the so called Nexus X will come from Motorola. Today, we have one more report, which points out the former Google owned company as the Nexus device maker for 2014.
According to 9to5Google’s inside sources, Motorola is working on a large screen Nexus code named ‘Shamu’. This news is in line with previous rumors which said that Nexus 6 would feature a very large screen up to 6 inches in size.
The source claims that the device would come with a 5.92 inch screen with a slightly larger body. So, the phone could have very small bezels to make it easier to operate.
Basically, the phone would be a scaled up version of the recently announced Moto X. But there will be some minor tweaks which will make such a large phone easier to use. One such tweak could be the volume and power button’s placement. It will most likely be situated around the center on the right side, instead of the upper half.
Designing the next Nexus on the basis of an already announced flagship doesn’t sound surprising given that all previous Nexus devices have been made with a top end device in mind. The last Nexus 5 was based
on the LG G2 and the Nexus 4 was partially based on the LG Optimus G flagship. Now that Motorola is taking over the production of the device, it’s more than likely that the company will make the new Nexus with its own flagship in mind.
The source further adds that the device would come with the latest Snapdragon 805 chipset along with 3GB RAM on board. There will also be a 32GB variant along with other storage options.
On the back, there will be a 13MP shooter capable of recording 4K UHD videos while on the front; the device will have a 2MP shooter.
Like earlier rumors stated, even with the 5.92 inch screen, the phone will have very high pixel density, 498 PPI to be exact, thanks to the QHD resolution that it comes with. The battery will be around 3200 mAH which should be enough to power it throughout the day.
While this report is in line with previous rumors and leaks, we advise you to take it with a pinch of salt.
And if you are wondering whether there’s another Nexus with a smaller screen in the works, the source doesn’t rule out that possibility too.
End of the day, we probably won’t have to wait too long to find out whether these specs are true as rumors say that the device will be announced around mid-October and will be released by November 2014.
