Motorola-made 5.9 inch Nexus 6 may release this November

Motorola-made 5.9 inch Nexus 6 may release this NovemberEarlier this year, there were several reports which hinted at a possible premium Android lineup from Google called the Android Silver program. At the same time, there was hardly any news or information about a Nexus product in the making for release this year, and last year’s manufacturer, LG said that they were not contacted by Google for the next Nexus production.

After coming across all these reports, analysts and fans started to doubt whether a Nexus device would actually make it to the market this year. However, a Google Executive at Google I/O confirmed later that the Nexus program would be unaffected by the Silver program (if it turned out to be real) and hence, a Nexus 6 could hit the market this fall.

One month later, we have news from Android Police which suggests that there will be a 5.9 inch Nexus device which will hit the market later this year. The website does ask its readers to take the news with a grain of salt by giving the information a confidence rating of 6.5 out of the 10. The author further adds that while he’s quite sure about the device being real, there still might be some changes in the specifications and release date of the handset, which is why he deducted some points from the confidence rating.

According to Android Police, the next Nexus device is code named Shamu and will be manufactured by the ex-Google company, Motorola. The device will be 5.9 inches large, which will make it the largest Nexus device yet and will come with a finger print sensor too. Moreover, the device will be targeted for a November release this year.

The website claims it will be available on all four major US carriers along with other carriers in different parts of the world.

If the rumor turns out to be true, it would be the first Nexus smartphone from Motorola. That’s not exactly a bad thing given that the company has proved that it can release top of the line smartphones. However, it’s still somewhat surprising to see Google turn to Motorola instead of its two year old partner, LG for its upcoming Nexus.

Both the previous Nexus smartphones were well received and LG especially was praised for its excellent hardware and design. Given that LG’s current flagship, LG G3 is probably the hottest smartphone of the year, it could have been a great base for the next Nexus device.

Anyways, we are still not sure about the information from Android Police and even if it turns out to be true, we know Motorola can make exceptional Android smartphones. Hence, all we have to do is to wait for a few more months to check out the real device.
