Motorola has recently unveiled the Google Play Edition of its new smartphone Moto G. This comes as no surprise because the handset manufacturer has been a unit of Google for quite some time now. It is also expected that this new version of Moto G would provide users with faster and easier access to the Google app store.
In a statement, Motorola announced that the Google Play Edition Moto G would quickly and automatically obtain updates about the latest Android software. It is optimized strategically for the latest apps, greater storage for downloaded content, and better overall user experience.
Moto G Google Play Edition is offering the same specifications as its predecessor, the GSM model of the smartphone. Of course, the new handset comes with stock version of the latest Android, 4.4 KitKat. Thus, it is one of the still few smartphones in the market that automatically operates on the latest free mobile operating system.
Strategically low price tag
Also to be expected is the logically affordable price tag. The Google Play phone could be bought for just $179 for the 8GB version and $199 for the 16GB model. The handset also eliminates the need for the typical two-year subscription contract. However, the smartphone would only be compatible with T-Mobile and AT&T.
Moto G Google Play Edition could now be found and acquired through Google Play. Any potential buyer should simply place an order through the app store anytime. The new handset is initially and currently available only in the US, although the company is yet to make any announcement for plans to offer it in a wider scale.
In line with original Moto G
Moto G was launched in November specifically to target customers who prefer a cheaper smartphone without the need to be locked in the typical two-year contract of wireless service providers. Of course, as the name suggests, the handset represents collaboration between Motorola and its new parent company Google Inc.
Like the original Moto G GSM version, Google Play Edition has a 4.5-inch display with 720 pixels and 329ppi. It runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. Another attractive feature is its long battery life that may last an entire day. It even sports a 5-megapixel rear camera and 1.3-megapixel shooter facing the front.
The launch of Moto G Google Play Edition coincided with Motorola’s announcement that its flagship phone Moto X would finally be sold in Europe. The smartphone would initially be available in Germany, France, and the UK beginning February 1.
