Motorola announced two new smartphones in the market earlier today namely the Moto G and the Moto X. The company retained the same name as its predecessor which is kind of surprising given that previous rumors said that the new flagship will be called as the Moto X+1.
Both the devices offer slight but necessary improvements over last year’s models and we think overall Motorola did well with their releases this year.
The new Moto G smartphone, which has some big shoes to fill given that its predecessor was the best-selling Motorola smartphone till date, will come with a larger 5 inch screen with the same 720p resolution as seen in the last year’s model. The company has also improved the camera module on the device, with an 8MP shooter on the back along with a 2MP one up front.
Inside, there’s 1.2 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC along with Adreno 305 and 1GB RAM. You get 16GB storage on board with expandable storage support via MicroSD card up to 32GB. Moto G comes with Android 4.4.4 Kitkat out of the box and you can expect it to be updated to the latest Android L version pretty soon.
On the other hand, the flagship model, Moto X 2014 comes with a 5.2 inch FULL HD 1080p screen. While the resolution is not as great as other flagships in the market, it should still display clear and bright pictures. Like its brother, Moto X’s screen will be protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3.
Motorola has made some changes in the design too, by adding a new metal frame which makes it look more premium and sturdy. There are a bunch of other customable options too like last year’s model.
The device comes with a 2.5 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC along with Adreno 330 and 2 GB RAM. There’s a 13MP camera at the back which can record 1080p videos along with a 2MP shooter above the screen.
Unlike the 2070 mAh battery found on the new Moto G, the flagship model will come with a slightly larger 2,300 mAh battery. The device too will run on Android 4.4.4 Kitkat which will be updated to Android L in the coming months.
Moto G will be available in the market off contract for $180 which is around the same price as last year’s model. The device will be available for purchase starting today.
Moto X on the other hand will retail for $500, but will only be available later this month.
