After so many rumors and speculations, Motorola has finally announced Moto E smartphone. Unlike earlier leaks which suggested that Moto E might replace the popular Moto G handset, Motorola has smartly updated the lineup to add another handset at the lower end segment.
As expected, Moto E sports weaker specs than its elder sibling. The smartphone comes with a dual core 1.2Ghz Snapdragon 200 processor along with 1GB RAM. The screen size measures 4.3 inches and sports a resolution of 960 x 540. There’s 4GB internal storage which can be further expanded up to 32GB via the provided MicroSD card slot.
On the back, there’s a 5MP camera, which is probably the same one found on Moto G. The inbuilt battery is small at 1,980 mAh but Motorola claims that it’s enough for a day’s usage. Given that Moto X and Moto G are both known for their battery life, it won’t be surprising if this 1,980 mAh battery lasts for a day or more.
While these specs are better than most other competitors in the segment, Motorola has taken things to the next level by making the phone somewhat durable. The 4.3 inch comes with Gorilla Glass 3 along with a water resistant splash guard. This should protect the screen from scratches and water to some extent. However, remember that the phone is not exactly water proof and cannot be submerged under water.
Moto E retains the same design as seen on its elder siblings, which is not a bad thing considering the phone looks clean and well built.
Just like the Moto G, this smartphone comes with replaceable back covers. So, users can experiment with different colored back shells. On the software side, Moto E runs Android Kitkat out of the box. Further, Motorola has guaranteed future Android updates on the device, which can be a deciding factor for users who love to enjoy the latest Android version on their phone. There are some new software additions too, like the Location status feature and the Meet Me/ Follow Me feature.
Now, coming to the best part, Moto E is priced at $117 which makes it one of the best value for money device in this price range. The design looks good, the specs look good and a near stock Android experience definitely makes it a hot device at this price range. Moto E goes on sale in US starting today, and will be available in UK for 69 starting May 19.
