Moto G is Motorola’s most successful device yet and looks like the company is busy preparing the successor of the device. Moto G2 or the so called Moto G+1 was reportedly spotted on the GFXBench database a few days back. The device had a model number XT1063 which made it a possible successor to the existing Moto G handset.
The device is currently being called as the Moto G2, but Motorola has not yet confirmed anything about the device including its name. So, Moto G’s successor could be called anything at the official announcement including Moto G+1 like the rumored Moto X+1.
The specs as revealed by the database are actually disappointing for a successor to a great device like Moto G.
It states that the device would come with a 5 inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 720 pixels. While the screen size has increased from the 4.5 inch on the current Moto G, the resolution remains the same which will reduce the display quality.
Inside, there’s a Snapdragon 400 SoC along with 1GB RAM. This is the same as the one found on the previous model. Moreover, the company is reportedly going with Adreno 305 GPU on its successor, which is once again the same GPU used in the current Moto G.
On the back, there’s an 8MP camera along with a 2.1MP front shooter. This is the only significant upgrade from the current model according to this database as the existing Moto G came with a 5MP rear and 1.3MP front shooter.
It would run Android 4.4 Kitkat out of the box, but it’s nothing new as Moto G too runs on the same version.
While the details revealed by the database are disappointing, we can’t really say that this would be the final specs. If the company were to announce the new device around the same time as last year, then we would have to wait for more than 2 months for the announcement. So, a lot of these leaked specifications could change during this time.
While we haven’t really heard a lot about the successor of Moto G in the last few months, this is the second such leak within a month.
Last month, a leak revealed the front side of the device, which showed that the company took some design cues from Moto E for the Moto G successor.
So, if Motorola was planning to release the device sometime around November this year, we will definitely hear more about the device in the coming months.
