We got a glimpse of Moto 360 smartwatch back at Google I/O in June, however, even after two months from the conference, Motorola has not yet official unveiled the device. From what we saw at the event, in reality Moto 360 looks as good as pictures we saw earlier, so we are sure fans would be excited to get their hands on the device.
Motorola is all set to officially announce the device at a press event in Chicago on September 4th. But even before the announcement, the Moto 360 product page on Best Buy website went online. There’s almost two weeks left for the event and we already know the key specifications as well as the price tag of the smartwatch.
The Best Buy product page says that the device will be available soon for $249.99. This makes it costlier than other Android Wear running smartwatches from rival companies like LG and Samsung.
LG’s G Watch retails for $229 while the Samsung Gear Live smartwatch costs $199. But we don’t think consumers will mind the difference as the Moto 360 looks much better than the other two competitors.
Both G Watch and Gear Live sport a square design profile, like most other smartwatches. However, Moto 360 comes with a round face, which makes it much more attractive and suited for a smartwatch.
The page also revealed some of the specifications of the device. The watch will come with a Texas Instruments processor along with a hear rate sensor and pedometer. It will be water resistant for up to 3.3′ for a period of 30 minutes with a stainless steel case and a plastic back. Other features include vibration alerts and voice activated controls.
One thing to note here is that the $249.99 as given by the product page may not be the final price. Motorola may announce a cheaper price tag, if it wants to, at the official unveiling. But for that, we’ll have to wait for some more weeks.
Also, according to the invite sent out to Google I/O attendees, who are soon to receive their Moto 360 smartwatches, the device might ship sometime around September 6th. The invite notes that September 5th is the last date of registering their addresses for the device, which could mean that Motorola may start shipping it after the specified date.
On the other hand, the product page on Best Buy just says that the device will be ‘coming soon’. So, for now, we can expect the device to start selling around early to mid-September.
