Miss Universe 2015: Miss Costa Rica Slams Miss Guatemala – Find Out Why Here!

It looks like the whole Miss Universe 2015 mix-up between Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez and Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach — the latter of whom was crowned the true Miss Universe 2015 after Gutierrez was initially given the crown — isn’t the only drama surrounding the beauty pageant.

A new controversy has emerged, this time between Miss Costa Rica Brenda Castro and Miss Guatemala Fabiola Jeimmy Tahiz Aburto: allegedly, a jab on Miss Costa Rica’s part was made on Miss Guatemala’s traditional, flower-print Mayan dress. The reported comment about the traditional dress was made on Castro’s Facebook page.

“It looks like Miss Guatemala completely forgot what type of event she’s in. What do you think?” reads the comment. While the snarky words could be the early beginnings of a Miss Universe 2015 catfight in the making, Castro is not believed to be the mastermind behind the comments.

A statement was later followed up by the Miss Costa Rica official Facebook page, revealing the page administrator — who is said to have made the improper comment in the first place — had been removed for their actions.

“A page administrator has been sacked after he made a post about the evening dress of Miss Guatemala,” the statement read. “We apologize for any offense.”

However, the damage had already been done, with many Guatemalans outraged by the inappropriate remarks. The statements on Miss Guatemala’s dress were seen as an attack on the Guatemalan culture and national heritage.

In response to the whole fiasco, the Miss Guatemala official Facebook page released its own statement, writing, “This is an insult to our culture and to our traditional Mayan tailors. We hope this comment was a mistake.”
