Miss Canada of the Miss Universe pageant has taken a stand against body-shamers. Siera Bearchell received a lot of negative comments about her weight. As a result, she took the time to talk about self-worth and self-love on social media.
She emphasized that people often find importance on the things that they wished they could change, rather than loving everything about themselves. Siera also confessed that she is not as slim as she was back then, when she was still a teenager. But, now she is wiser, confident, capable, humble and passionate than she ever was before.
I was recently asked, "What happened to you? Why have you gained weight? You are losing points" This was a reference to my body of course. While I am first to say I am not as lean as I was when I was 16, 20, or even last year, but I am more confident, capable, wise, humble and passionate than ever before. 🙋🏻As soon as I started to love who I was rather than always trying to fit what I thought society wanted me to be, I gained a whole new side of life. This is the side I am trying to bring to the @missuniverse competition. The side of life that is so rare to find: self-worth and self-love. We always focus on the things we wish we could change rather than loving everything we are. #missuniverse #bodydiversity #IMG
In addition, she also revealed that she was always trying to fit the expectations of society. But, as soon as she started loving herself, she gained a new perspective on those issues, reports BBC. She expressed her desire to inspire other women to be comfortable with their bodies. That is the reason why she talks openly about this issue that affects women around the globe.
This is how Miss Canada stays fit
Preparing for a pageant is not an easy task. Siera would often eat chicken and asparagus just to stay slim while preparing for a different pageant the last time. She also spent hours in the gym and only eat a protein bar. But, it only made her even hungrier, according to CBC News.
Her post has gone viral. Her 12,000 followers on Instagram have reposted it. Bearchell hopes that her message will to accept, to love and to value oneself will inspire others and reverberate throughout the world. She reminded all women that beauty and validation really do start from within.
Siera Bearchell is a Canadian entrepreneur, runner and beauty titlist. She got crowned as Miss Canada 2016 and will represent the country in the ongoing Miss Universe pageant in the Philippines. She is also a law student at the University of Saskatchewan, who is currently in her second year.
