Miley Cyrus Tops List of Most Searched Person in Yahoo for 2013

Miley CyrusAfter Microsoft Corp’s Bing search engine identified Beyonce as its most searched about celebrity for the year, Yahoo now follows suit. But for the popular search engine, Miley Cyrus has been the most searched about person for 2013.

The controversial Cyrus was able to displace reality TV star Kim Kardashian from that throne. Kardashian was the most searched person in Yahoo in 2012. This does not surprise many netizens. That is because Cyrus really drew controversy when she did nasty things over the past few months.

According to observers, Cyrus was made more popular by her ‘twerking,’ which is now mainly attributed and related to her. It could be recalled that Cyrus ‘twerked’ her way up to be the talk of the town when she performed in the recent MTV Music Video Awards.

Yahoo top searches

The list of Yahoo top searches for this year is very interesting. Aside from Cyrus and Kardashian, many other interesting and talked about personalities made it to the list. Most of them are either loved or hated by the public.

At the third spot on the list is ‘Sports Illustrated’ goddess Kate Upton. Others in the list are pop star Selena Gomez and her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, Amanda Bynes, and Jodi Arias, the convicted murderer. Also making it to the list are Minecraft (the building block game), Obamacare, and iPhone 5 (beating iPhone 5S that was launched last September).

Other lists

Aside from the list of popular searches, Yahoo also came up this year with a list of top ‘obsessions’ by its users. These are terms or keywords that have instantly gained popularity across the search charts. So what could be the top obsession online? Yahoo said it is ‘Duck Dynasty,’ the hilarious TV show. Following it is another TV series ‘Breaking Bad.’ Others in the list are ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ ‘The Walking Dead,’ and the recently launched $100 bill.

The top searched stories across Yahoo for the year featured local and international affairs. As expected, the list was dominated by the Jodi Arias murder trial. Following it are the Obamacare debate, the bloody Boston marathon bombing, the George Zimmerman trial, and the birth of England’s royal baby.

Yahoo even released a list of most viral blogs on its Website Tumblr. Among the prominent entries are ‘Reasons My Son Is Crying’ video, ‘This Charming Charlie,’ ‘The Worst Room,’ and ‘Hot Dog Legs.
