Everton midfielder Tom Cleverley and his family were the subject of a $268,000 burglary on their Manchester mansion by armed robbers.
Cleverley, 26, and his wife, former The Only Way Is Essex star Georgina Dorsett, 29, were at home with their 2-year-old daughter Nevaeh Rose when the thieves broke in.
Armed with baseball bats and an extendable baton, the thugs demanded that the couple hand over $268,000 in jewelery before demanding the keys to their high-end convertible.
Reported to have been stolen are a $23,000 Carter bracelet, a $15,300 Hermes Birkin handbag, and a $76,500 Audemars Piguet watch. The stolen car, with a worth of $153,100, was a Range Rover.
“Tom and Georgina weren’t physically hurt but it was a horrific ordeal for them — especially as their little girl was with them. The only thing on their minds was protecting her. This was a very, very nasty incident and the couple have been shaken beyond belief,” reports a source to The Sun’s Guy Patrick and Richard Moriarty.
“It is an exclusive area and everyone will be reviewing their security after this.”
The source also added that the couple may have been targeted for their wealth, and that Dorsett was “properly spooked” by the whole occurrence. She now wishes to move.
Greater Manchester Police said it was investigating the incident, which occurred last Friday night.
“Officers attended and discovered a man, a woman, and an infant who had been the victims of an aggravated burglary,” said a spokesman for the force. “None of the victims were injured. An investigation was subsequently launched and is on-going.”
Cleverley and Dorsett were married this summer at an extravagant ceremony in Mayfair, London, with England captain Wayne Rooney, and Dorsett’s best friend, The Saturdays Star and Xtra Factor presenter Rochelle Humes, among the guests.
The couple had been together since 2012 and became engaged in summer 2014 during a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, after Cleverley proposed with a $30,600 ring.
They welcomed the birth of their first child, Nevaeh, in June 2013.
