After Marvel’s Spider-Man has gotten the attention of the masses, Marvel themselves have revealed that more games are in development. There are more games coming to consoles, mobile devices and even VR, which seemed evident after the Spider-Man Homecoming VR Experience. Overall, it seems like the company is taking their foray into video games more seriously, after plenty of weak tie-in titles.

During an interview with GameSpot, the company confirmed that they would be bringing their characters to mobile and VR devices. This was stated when the gaming website asked them if they considered lending their characters to smaller studios. Mike Jones, the Vice President and Executive Producer of Marvel Games, said “absolutely,” before confirming VR and mobile titles in addition to more console games.

The addition of more Marvel mobile games isn’t a huge surprise, given the successes of Marvel Future Fight, Marvel Puzzle Quest and Marvel Contest of Champions. Aside from Spider-Man PS4, the company has also released Marvel Heroes and the two Ultimate Alliance games on current-gen consoles and PC. Having VR games should be interesting, though the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming VR Experience is more of a gimmick than an actual game.

In the interview, Jones commented on previous tie-in games and stated that the company no longer wants to be associated with them. This is a fair statement, considering how appalled the tie-in games of Thor and Iron Man were. Spider-Man PS4 and the Avengers Project might redeem the company from previous failures, which fans are looking forward to.

Marvel wants to replicate the success of their films and comic books to video games, so more mobile, console and VR games could be a good thing. We still have to wait till 2018 for the Spider-Man PS4 exclusive, since no proper release date has been given. However, Sony Interactive America President Shawn Layden told Telegraph that their 2018-bound games showcased at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2017 are all coming in the first half of the year.
