After seven years of waiting, the creator of Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy (Tetsuya Nomura) has announced the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts 3.
Following a series of hand held titles, including Birth by Sleep, 358/2 Days, and Dream Drop Distance, the Kingdom Hearts Franchise is finally releasing another core title. Kingdom Hearts 3 takes place after the end of Dream Drop Distance, continuing after the most recent release. The main trio (Sora, Donald and Goofy) continue their battles through the Disney universe as warriors of the light, fighting back against the army of heartless.
During the events in Dream Drop Distance, Nomura managed to bring together the series and continue forward towards its climax. Following after the appointment of co-hero Riku as Keyblade master, Kingdom Hearts 3 presents the final battle between dark and light. The Seven Pure Lights will clash with the 13 Darknesses, ending the Xehanort saga with climatic flare. However, Nomura recently announced during an interview that Kingdom Hearts 3 will not be the last game in the series, it will only finish a single storyline in the series.
Although the title was recently announced during the Sony Press Conference at E3, no release date has been mentioned, only that the game is currently in production. A few days later, the game was announced to be released for the first time on a Microsoft console, allowing player from both platforms to follow the series. Along with the grand announcement of Kingdom Hearts 3, Nomura is also going back to the roots of the series.
A High-Definition re-release of the original Kingdom Hearts is to be released in North America on September 10th, Australia on September 12th, and Europe on September 13th. In addition to including the original game, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 will include the exclusive Japanese content from the Final Mix version of the game, as well as a playable Re: Chain of Memories and HD cutscenes from 358/2 Days.
