LG unveiled the LG G Flex featuring a curved body last year. While the device wasn’t the best of the announcements of the year, it was still something new and inventive as compared to other traditional offerings. Moreover, the device was well received as compared to its direct competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Round.
Now, the South Korean giant is all set to unveil its second generation device, the LG G Flex 2. The company has made a lot of changes in this new device, shrinking down the size from the original 6-inches. While this isn’t a usual move for a successor, this particular change makes the display much crisper and better as compared to the original G Flex.
The LG G Flex 2 will come with the new Snapdragon 810 processor. In fact, it will be one of the first smartphones to feature this new SoC from Qualcomm. New always means better and this is exactly the case with the 64-bit Snapdragon 810. There are eight cores inside each clocked at an impressive 2.0 GHz. Further, there is 2GB of DDR4 RAM inside with 16GB / 32GB memory options. A 3,000mAh battery powers the G Flex 2 which supports fast charge (50 percent in just 40 minutes!).
As mentioned above, the display is now a 5.5-inch 1080p Plastic OLED (P-OLED) instead of the 720p 6-inch screen on the predecessor. LG has subjected the glass to a number of treatments which will increase its toughness by almost 20 percent. What’s even more interesting is that the Self-Healing rear panel, which was an exclusive feature of the G Flex makes a comeback in this model. But this time around, it’s much better and faster than before. Earlier, the material took around 3 minutes to heal itself, but now, it heals within 10 seconds!
As for the camera, LG has equipped the G Flex 2 with a 13MP camera sensor with OIS and Laser AutoFocus. This setup could be the same as the LG G3 flagship, but the company has not yet confirmed it. At the front, there is a 2.1MP shooter. As for connectivity, it comes with 4G / LTE / HSPA+ 21/42 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth Smart Ready 4.1, NFC, SlimPort, A-GPS / Glonass, and USB 2.0.
LG G Flex 2 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS with UI similar to the G3. It also comes with a number of gesture controls such as Gesture Shot, Gesture View and Glance View. Like always, LG will unveil the device first in South Korea by the end of January in Platinum Silver and Flamenco Red colors, followed by a global release later.
