The LG G2 has been rumored for quite a while now and the company officially announced the smartphone at their New York City event, filled with jazz and too many “learning from you” punch lines.
Essentially, it is what we have heard in the rumors and then some. The LG G2 comes with a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chip, 2GB of RAM with additional space for gaming, 16GB or 32GB of storage with no microSD expansion, an all-day 3,000mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi and LTE-advanced.
This is definitely the most powerful device on the market right now, the Snapdragon 800 chip is superb and is set to dominate the high-end market for some time. The LG G2 also has the smallest bezels we have ever seen on a smartphone, with advanced display technology allowing the company to trim the bezels down to a few millimeters.
Talking about the screen, LG has packed a gorgeous 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 full HD IPS display onto the LG G2. This is one of the best displays we have seen on any smartphone and rivals the HTC One and Galaxy S4. With almost no bezels this is the true edge-to-edge display.
The 13MP OIS rear camera has made a few impressions, sitting on the back of the smartphone alongside the on/off and volume buttons, it has impressive stabilization processes and the camera pixels capture more, the detail even reflects when the user zooms into the photo, with almost no degrading image quality.
LG G2 comes equip with HiFi “studio quality audio” capable of reaching 192k 28bit format, used in studios. This is much better than the current CD standard, but we will have to wait and see if it really reflects on the LG G2.
Lastly, LG announced a new suite of applications and features to make the user experience faster and less of a hassle, here is a list of the new features:
- KnockOn – Tapping on the screen wakes the device from sleep mode.
- AnswerMe – The phone will automatically start a call when the user places the phone on their ear.
- TextLink – Allows users to skip to another app from a text message by tapping the text.
- Plug & Pop – Offers various apps when the user plugs in their headphones.
- Guest Mode – Gives guests the opportunity to browse certain apps while in guest mode.
LG G2 will be available on the four major US carriers and will be coming to 130 carriers worldwide in the coming months. We expect the normal price for a premium device, $199 on a two year contract.
