LG G watch leaked specifications reveal low res screen and limited features

LG G watch leaked specifications reveal low res screen and limited featuresA few months back, LG showcased its first smartwatch called as the LG G watch. However, the company did not give out any details about the wearable device, with the design being the only thing that was flaunted back then.

Over the past few weeks, the South Korean giant has showcased the G watch via a teaser video, but even after so many weeks, details about the specifications of the device has not been revealed.

However, thanks to a recent leak, fans now have some idea as to what to expect from the upcoming G watch. The specs as revealed by the leak show that the device will have basic specifications, which is somewhat disappointing. There’s no camera or any additional sensors or features of any kind, which is actually surprising given that there are some better alternatives in the market including Samsung’s Tizen based Gear 2 smartwatch.

The smartwatch will be powered by a Qualcomm processor, however the details about the specified APQ8026 processor are not known. In fact, it’s the first time we are hearing about this particular processor, so this could be a new processor developed by Qualcomm for wearable devices.

Unfortunately, the display is quite small and at 1.6 inches, it won’t impress fans who like big screens. The display resolution too is kind of disappointing at 280 x 280 pixels. As for the internal memory, there’s 4GB onboard memory. However, that’s shared between the RAM and the internal storage, with the RAM taking about 512MB from the total onboard storage.

Unfortunately, as mentioned before, LG has surprisingly packed limited number of features on the device and it looks like most of the features come via the Android Wear operating system from Google. There are no special sensors inside, just the basic proximity, tilt, gyro, and pedometer. Also, other features found on rival products like calendar and music player won’t be integrated onto the device.

It looks like LG is relying a lot on Android Wear for adding features to the device. While these specs and features are nothing out of the ordinary, the battery life of the device is somewhat impressive. According to the spec sheet, G watch’s 400mAh battery can last for 36 hours on standby.

Also, G watch will be cheaper than existing alternatives in the market. Earlier rumors said that the device would be priced around the same range as the Gear 2 Neo smartwatch, but new reports state that the price would be even lower. So, one can expect it to be priced around $250- $280.
