LG announces mid range LG G3 A smartphone in South Korea

LG announces mid range LG G3 A smartphone in South KoreaLG G3 was undoubtedly one of the best smartphones of the year and looks like LG is looking to capitalize on its success with different versions of the device.

Today, the company announced LG G3 A, a mid-range smartphone which is aimed at customers who would like something cheaper than the current LG flagship. While we are sure G3 A would be cheaper than G3, we don’t have any details on its pricing.

Looking at the specifications, the device lies between LG G3 flagship and the recently announced G3 A. It’s better than Beat in a number of areas; however it’s less capable than G3 in most areas.

LG G3 A comes with a 5.2 inch Full HD 1,920 x 1080 display which is better than the 720p screen found on the Beat. Inside, there’s a Quad Core 2.26 Ghz Snapdragon 800 processor along with 2GB RAM. In comparison, the flagship G3 comes with Snapdragon 801 SoC clocked at 2.25 Ghz and G3 Beat comes with a less powerful 1.2 Ghz Quad Core Snapdragon 400 SoC. For storage, there’s inbuilt 32GB memory, which can be expanded via a MicroSD card.

LG has surprisingly incorporated the same camera module found on G3. The device comes with a 13MP rear camera with Laser Auto Focus along with a 2.1MP front facing shooter. On the other hand, G3 Beat comes only with an 8MP rear shooter with 1.3MP camera up front.

LG G3 A comes with Android 4.4 Kitkat version out of the box. It has a 2,620 mAh battery which is less than the 3,000 mAh one that came with the G3. But given the smaller screen size, we expect the talk time of both the devices to be more or less the same.

The device also comes with some special features like T Action and Anti-Theft protection. The T Action feature allows the user to open up an app, answer or silence a call etc. with a wrist based gesture.

The Anti-Theft feature like the name suggests protects your device from strangers. This feature will particularly come in handy in cafe where someone can steal your phone on charging when you are not looking. With this feature turned on, if someone tries to take your phone it will sound an alarm.

LG has made the device initially available in South Korea, but it did not reveal any details about international availability or pricing.
