LG announces its first round smartwatch, LG G Watch R

LG announces, first round smartwatch, LG G Watch RIt looks like people dig round smartwatches, which was evident from the immense popularity of Moto 360. The other two Android Wear partners LG and Samsung were not quite able to stir up the crowd like Motorola’s smartwatch and it was only a matter of time one of these companies came up with a better looking round alternative.

LG had recently released a teaser video where it confirmed that it was working on a round smartwatch. And finally today, the company has taken the wraps off the new device.

This new smartwatch will be called as the LG G Watch R. With just one glance, you know that LG has done it right this time. The device is much better looking and refined than the earlier released G Watch,  which makes it one of the best looking smartwatches watches out there, even giving tough competition to the existing Moto 360.

However, LG has designed it in such a way that it looks a lot like the traditional anolog smartwatch. In fact, you may even mistake it for one, if you don’t look at it closely. To sum up, its the most traditional looking smartwatch that we have encountered.

The watch comes with a 1.3 inch plastic display which takes up 100 percent of the watch’s face. This means there won’t be any unnecessary black bars at the bottom like the Moto 360, which users were not particularly fond of.

The display is bright and viewable from any angle. Plus the company claims that the display is readable even in bright sunlight which is an essential factor when you are outdoors. Moreover, the G watch R is dustproof and water proof and can even be submerged under water up to 1 meter for around 30 minutes.

Inside, there’s a 1.2Ghz processor with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage. There are plenty of sensors too like Gyroscope, Accelerometer and Heart Rate monitor. These sensors coupled with the number of fitness and health oriented apps for the device essentially makes it a fitness device too.

Given that it runs Google’s Android Wear platform, you can access notifications, notes, calendars and even check directions on the device. Apparently, you’ll also get a number of LG’s own wearable apps for the device along with the hundreds of other compatible apps on the play store.

LG has not yet revealed the pricing of the device but says that it will be available in ‘Key Markets’ starting fourth quarter of 2014.
