It was a day of pride indeed. The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, once again showed why she is considered one of the fashion industry’s best dressed among her league. It was the very first state dinner for the Duchess as Chinese President Xi Jinping pays a visit to Britain.

The state dinner commences at the beginning of the four-day visit of President Xi to the country. Duchess Kate took pride of place at the Buckingham Palace banquet table. The pride of place is the next prominent position in the table next to the queen, and she takes this place as the wife of Prince William.

The state dinner was hosted by the Queen and Prince Philip and was attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan were also in attendance. There were 170 guests in attendance and the Chinese national anthem was played at this royal event.

The Duchess dazzled everyone in her long, bespoke Jenny Packham red gown. Subtly, Kate sartorially displayed diplomacy by choosing the national color of China. She also opted to wear the Papyrus tiara, her second time to wear one for an official engagement. The Papyrus tiara, also known as the Lotus Flower, was once owned by the Queen Mother.

The tiara was also a favorite of Princess Margaret. It was matched by drop-down diamond earrings to complete her royal ensemble for the state dinner. The Duchess joined the Royal Procession, walking with Wang Huning, one of China’s top leaders. Prince William walked alongside Caroline Welby, wife of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Queen gave a speech prior to the sit down dinner, declaring the state visit a milestone in Anglo-Chinese ties.

‘We have much reason to celebrate the dynamic, growing economic relationship between our countries. Your visit to the United Kingdom marks a milestone in this unprecedented year of co-operation and friendship between the United Kingdom and China, as we celebrate the ties between our two countries and prepare to take them to ambitious new heights.’

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were not in attendance at the said event.
