Judge To Bindi Irwin: Give Me Proof That Your Dad Is Dead!

Bindi Irwin — daughter of the late Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin — is in a legal pickle, following the denial of her contract with Dancing With The Stars in a Los Angeles court.

As she is still a minor at 17 years old, lawyers for the dancing show had to submit Bindi’s contract to an L.A. Superior Court judge. While her mother, Terri Irwin, had already signed a form stating she gave up all rights to the income her daughter would receive on the show, the L.A. judge wants the same release from Bindi’s father, Steve Irwin.

It is publicly known that Steve Irwin, Australian wildlife expert and conservationist, passed away in 2006 due to a stingray injury whilst filming a documentary film. It is unknown whether the court judge is unaware of Irwin’s passing or if she is particular with legal laws and death certificates.

The judge ruled that without a similar release from Irwin’s father, “the court is unable to find that it is in the best interest of the minor to be bound by the terms of the contract.”

Under U.S. law, contracts with minors must be processed by a judge, during which, both parents or guardians would typically waive any legal right to the minor’s earnings.

Due to this legal wrangle, Bindi’s salary on the show was leaked, which is a rarity in American television as details of such reality TV contracts are usually considered “commercial in confidence.”

According to the contract, Bindi’s financial terms set her with a guarantee of $125,000 for appearing on the show. She will earn $10,000 per week on the third and fourth weeks of the show, an additional $15,000 for the fifth week, $20,000 for the sixth and seventh weeks, $30,000 for the eighth and ninth, and $50,000 a week for the tenth and eleventh.

So far, Bindi has made it through week 8, banking her total income at $230,000. She and her dancing partner, Derek Hough, are predicted to become this year’s possible winners.
