As Jennifer Lawrence wraps up her promotion tours of the final movie installment of The Hunger Games, it seems as though she might be stepping down from acting for the time being. Instead, Jennifer has her sights on furthering her career in the movie-making industry as a director.

According to Jennifer Lawrence, being a movie director has been one of her dreams for almost as long she’s been an actress, and she finally feels as though she’s ready to step out and do it, saying “It’s funny, I’ve wanted to direct since I was 16 and always thought I should start making steps towards that. If I had tried to do it earlier, I wouldn’t have been ready. Now I actually feel ready.”

With The Hunger Games series all wrapped up now, Jennifer Lawrence will be going behind the scenes to direct her very first film. The movie that will become the actress’ directing debut is called Project Delirium and is based on one of the many drug experiments that was performed on voluntary subjects in the military in the 1960s.

Despite the fact that she’ll be behind the camera instead of starring in front of it for this film, fans need not worry as Jennifer Lawrence is also working on writing a screenplay with her close friend, Amy Schumer. The project is not yet named but will be a comedy starring the duo as sisters.

At just 25 years old, directing Project Delirium will see Jennifer Lawrence become one of Hollywood’s youngest directors. However, we’ve seen enough from the actress to have high hopes for any project that she pursues, and she certainly won’t be the first actress/actor to pursue off-camera work.

Following in the footsteps of other actors who became directors as well, such as Mel Gibson who went on to direct the phenomenally successful movie The Passion of the Christ, despite sparking a few controversies with the movie that included accusations that the actor/director was anti-Semite, and Angelina Jolie who has directed Unbroken which won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture.
