ISIS has purportedly released a new video, as well as an audio statement, entitled “Soon Very Soon the Blood Will Spill like an Ocean” in which they threatened to attack Russia very soon. While it has not yet been verified that the video was indeed authentic, it was released by ISIS-affiliated social media accounts.

This video was posted just two weeks after a Russian commercial jet crashed, killing the 224 people who were on board. Since the event, an ISIS affiliate has claimed that the plane’s crash was their doing.

The possibility of ISIS bringing down the plane with a missile has been most likely ruled out based on the fact that the group has not been known to have missiles capable of reaching the altitude of the plane. There are, however, speculations that a more conventional explosive device may have been smuggled aboard with some inside help before the plane took off.

Investigations are still ongoing and the cause of the crash has not yet been determined; however if the claims are true then the death toll of this event would make it the “deadliest terror attack since 9/11,” according to CNN.

In the wake of these events, concerns are rising that ISIS may be on the path to becoming a global threat. If, in fact, ISIS’ claims of responsibility for the plane crash are verified to be fact, it could mean that they had recruited inside help at the airport of origin and would thus alert authorities to the possibility that it could happen elsewhere.

The new video contains 5 minutes of footage made up of ISIS propaganda and videos of Russian cities and buildings. Over the footage, Russian chanting can be heard. The material is currently under scrutiny by Russian Security Services as they continue their efforts to verify the authenticity and origins of the video.

With Moscow’s military support currently being given in Syria, Russia has certainly drawn the heat of ISIS; however they have been threatened by ISIS even prior to this.
