HTC unveils Desire Eye, the selfie phone with 13MP front camera

HTC unveils Desire Eye, the selfie phone with 13MP front cameraHTC isn’t as big as Samsung or even Sony, but the company does get things right sometimes. The Taiwanese manufacturer was probably the company who popularized the concept of a metal body on smartphones. In fact, many claim its HTC One M8 as well as the last year’s flagship is one of the best designed phones in the market. And after seeing its tremendous popularity, almost every manufacturer has shifted to a metal body for their flagships.

What we are trying to say is that HTC has taken some bold moves in the past and today, the company yet again did something different than its competitors.

Meet the latest HTC smartphone, the HTC Desire Eye. Unlike other devices which focus on the rear camera, HTC has specifically incorporated a very powerful front camera to make sure that your selfies come out good.

In fact, the front shooter is so good that HTC claims that it’s currently the most powerful front camera that you can get in a smartphone. Clearly, the company has researched the market thoroughly and is banking on those users who like to take self-portraits, or the so called selfies. Given that almost everyone is obsessed with selfies these days, it won’t be surprising if the device turns out to be popular especially among youth.

HTC Desire Eye comes with a 13MP front shooter with Dual LED flash and Autofocus. It comes with all the standard features that you get in a rear camera, including the ability to capture 1080 Full HD videos.

Below the camera is a 5.2inch 1080p display. Inside, you have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB RAM. The rear camera is as powerful as the front shooter, so you have the same 13MP sensor at the back.

While some of the specs are comparable to the existing HTC One M8 flagship, when it comes to the design the two devices follow different paths. Unlike the metal finish on the flagship, Desire Eye comes with colorful soft touch plastic, which to be frank doesn’t look bad. In fact, if you can digest the fact that it’s going to be much cheaper than M8, even with the high end specs, we are sure you won’t mind the plastic body.

If this device turns out to be successful, we are sure rival companies will release their own selfie centered phones in the coming days.

So do you like the new HTC Desire Eye?
