HTC has sent out invites for its March 1st event at MWC in Barcelona

HTC has sent out invites for its March 1st event at MWC in BarcelonaThe first week of January was a pretty busy period given that a lot of tech companies came forward to showcase what they have in store for 2015. However, CES isn’t a place where most manufacturers release their flagship devices. Almost every major manufacturer in the market including Samsung, HTC, LG, and Sony announces their flagship devices only a few months into the year. Some of them use MWC held in Barcelona as a platform to release their new top end devices, while others wait for a few weeks longer.

Last year HTC unveiled its flagship, HTC One M8 at the end of March, after MWC 2014. However, it looks like this year; the company may announce the device at the big event in Barcelona. The Taiwanese giant has sent out invites for its event that’s scheduled for March 1 at MWC in Barcelona, Spain. The invite says “Utopia in progress, Join us to see what’s next” but fails to reveal information about the device that will be showcased at the event. Could HTC reveal its new flagship at this event? It definitely looks like it, as what else would be so important than the unveiling of a flagship device?

However, last year, HTC took a different route and unveiled the One M8 only a few weeks after MWC. In fact, the only thing that we got to see at the event from this Taiwanese manufacturer was the existing HTC Desire 816 smartphone.

But with HTC’s new flagship in the picture, MWC will probably be the most exciting tech event of the year. Samsung, Sony and even LG are expected to unveil the Galaxy S6, Xperia Z4 and the LG G4 respectively at the event.

Unfortunately, HTC has neither confirmed nor denied reports of a new flagship at the event. The invite doesn’t say whether it will be a smartphone or even a wearable (as previously rumored). But there are a set of rumors going around on the internet which gives us an idea about the upcoming HTC flagship. First of all, the phone is called as the HTC Hima but the final name would probably be HTC One M9 in line with the current naming scheme. As for the tech specs, the phone will reportedly feature a 5-inch 1080p display with the latest Snapdragon 810 processor and 3GB RAM. There will be a 20.7MP rear camera with OIS and a 13MP front shooter. Other rumored specs include 2840 mAh battery and Android 5.1 OS with Sense 7 UI on top.

The company will most likely reveal some more details about the flagship in the coming days, so stay tuned.
