Through the entire season 1, Houdini and Doyle has been continuously haunted by low ratings. The show was leagues behind others such as Mike and Molly, The Big Bang Theory and even NCIS: Los Angeles in ratings. There are no confirmed reports that the actors left the show because they were underpaid. If anything, actor Stephen Mangan, who played Doyle, believes that the show was interesting and action packed, states an article in Assignment X.

Houdini and Doyle followed the friendship between Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini, the former a great writer and the latter a master illusionist. The duo would team up to assist the Scotland Yard in solving inexplicable crimes.

In an interview with Assignment X, creator David Titcher revealed that both Doyle and Houdini had an interest in the paranormal in real life. “It was the obsession of their lives. Doyle was basically the head of all the spiritualists, and spiritualism in 1901 was a very big religion in the world. Houdini was obsessed with stopping these fake mediums, and Doyle was the biggest believer in them,” he said.

Houdini and Doyle had an interesting premise and a small yet loyal audience. The viewers would love for the show to be renewed, and everyone is waiting for an official comment on the show. Till then, viewers should take everything with a grain of salt.
