Celebrating the Disney Channel Original Movie that broke all records for the network, the cast of the movie has gotten together for a High School Musical reunion to bring back the memories and good times!

The cast members have already gotten together to celebrate, but the excitement doesn’t end there: Disney has announced that the original High School Musical cast will be reunited for a special telecast of the movie, airing on Wednesday, to celebrate the movie’s 10th anniversary!

Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman returned to East High to tape a series of segments sharing their experiences and memories of filming the movie. Did you notice anyone missing? That’s right, Zac Efron found himself too busy to join his former co-stars for the High School Musical reunion.

The actor, who has clearly done the best job of clawing his way up in Hollywood, has been very busy lately due to filming his upcoming movie, “Dirty Grandpa,” and was unable to join his Disney cast-mates for the reunion. Zac Efron isn’t totally lost to the special telecast, however, and instead will be showing a pre-taped video of himself to the fans.

Despite the promised pre-recorded video, fans of the movie are a bit bitter about Zac Efron’s failure to appear for the High School Musical reunion, as seen by their tweets. After all, he was kind of the star of the movie!

Gary Marsh, Disney Channels Worldwide president and chief creative officer, stayed optimistic about the special celebration, however, and said “Seeing the cast of High School Musical back together again reaffirms what made it special 10 years ago… It’s their optimism, their dedication, and their extraordinary talent — as a group — that made this such an exceptional movie and cultural phenomenon.”

Marsh went on to add that “Ten years later, the movie continues to delight audiences around the globe, not just for its memorable song and dance numbers, but for its universal themes that continue to resonate with fans everywhere — express yourself, believe in yourself, and always follow your dreams.”

The original High School Musical Movie debuted on January 20th, 2006 and earned 7.7 million viewers in the U.S. alone. At the time, the movie broke records for Disney Channel’s highest ratings of all time. The original soundtrack ranked as the No. 1 album of 2006, and the love story of Troy, Gabriella, and fellow Wildcats went on from the TV movie to create two more theater movies, a concert tour, and also the High School Musical: The Ice Tour.

The cast of the original film turned to Twitter on Saturday to share their happiness and excitement over the High School Musical reunion. Ashley Tisdale tweeted, saying “Oh the feels… Get ready because we’re back celebrating the 10th anniversary!”

Lucas Grabeel and Corbin Bleu also shared their excitement and posted a photo of themselves wearing their old class rings from the movie.

When Disney aired the casts’ tribute to High School Musical on Saturday, fans immediately noticed Zac Efron’s absence. This upset many fans and even said that Efron is an ingrate to the show that made him who he is now and is the reason for his success. Many upset fans brought out their frustrations turning to twitter.

With or without Zac Efron, the rest of the cast seemed to have a blast as they recalled the good times they had on set. Congratulations to them for a very successful movie – Go Wildcats!
