Here’s How Taylor Swift Ruined This Couple’s Wedding Memories

Taylor Swift might be known for her breakup anthems (and the actual relationships that came with them), but her name has also been circulating around the web for her incredibly strict copyright enforcement.

From removing her music on Spotify and iTunes to copyrighting lyrics from her album 1989, Swift has been notorious for going to the extremes with regards to legally protecting her music.

But has she gone too far this time?

A recent wedding video of YouTube vloggers Rose Ellen Dix and Rosie Spaughton has been silenced by Swift’s team… all because the couple briefly danced to Shake It Off.

Dix defended herself, writing on Twitter, “All of the audio on our wedding video has been removed because we danced to Shake It Off. We didn’t upload it to make money and we haven’t!”

“I’m going to write Swift an open letter,” she added. “She’ll understand.”

Dix then reached out to Swift several times on Twitter, pleading for the restoration of their wedding video’s audio. Swift made no response.

“By including our first dance to [Swift] in our wedding vid, we have now lost our vows, speeches & our entire audio, due to copyright,” Spaughton wrote.

The Twitter community banded together in an effort to help the couple, with Dix’s tweets being retweeted thousands of times. The effort may have been fruitful as the audio of the video was eventually brought back.

This isn’t the first time Swift has bumped heads with YouTubers. In 2014, Swift’s management took down a parody video of Blank Space by controversial YouTube star Shane Dawson.

Dawson explained that he received a cease and desist email from Sony — Swift’s publishing company — stating that Swift’s managers were not fans of his video. Their main issue was the video’s “violent” content, not the alleged copyright infringement. The copyright infringement was merely abused as a means of taking down the video.

Who’s next on Swift’s hit list?
