Gwen Stefani Debuts New Break Up Song

It can be safe to say that breakups, whether mutual or one-sided, make for the best songs ever. First, there was Taylor Swift, now Gwen Stefani has just released her latest single, “Used to Love You”, a sad ode to her divorce from Gavin Rossdale.

No Doubt’s front woman Stefani rocked the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, solo. With five costume changes, she sang a repertoire of 22 songs that included some of her huge hits “The Sweet Escape”, “Hollaback Girl”, “What You Waiting For?”, “Wind It Up” and “Cool”.

It would be remembered that Stefani and Rossdale announced their divorce last August, after nearly thirteen years of marriage. Stefani cited irreconcilable differences as the cause of the split.

“While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment,” they told Access Hollywood.

“Used To Love You” will be the pop rock singer’s next single after “Baby Don’t Lie” and “Spark the Fire” which were her recent releases. During her show at the Hammerstein, Stefani was quoted to have said, “These songs are taking on new meaning!” while in between songs “4 In The Morning” and “Danger Zone”. Both songs speak of a rocky relationship.

Before finally singing “Used To Love You”, Stefani told the crowd, “I’m talking about pain and love and my real life, and I just want to say thank you for listening,” she told the crowd. “And I just want to share a song that I wrote recently. This song is really special.”

Stefani is currently working on her third solo album and collaborating with Pharell Williams, Ryan Tedder and Charli XCX.
