A lone gunman opened fire at the Blue Parrot nightclub in Playa Del Carmen in Mexico. The shooter fired the shots at the night club during the closing party of the BPM Music Festival. He did so after he was denied by the event’s security. Miguel Angel Pech Sen, Quintana Roo district attorney later confirmed that at least five people were killed in the shooting and around 15 injured.
Three of the five victims belonged to the organizer’s security team. The victims were four men and a woman. Four of the five died of gunshot wounds. Authorities believe that the woman, however, died in a stampede caused by the gun shots. Of the five, one victim was a Colombian two were Canadians and one was Italian. An article in NBC News states that Miguel Angel Pech, who is the Attorney General spoke to reporters about the incident at a recently held press conference. He informed the media that police had already detained three people for questioning. However, their involvement in the shooting is still unclear.
An article in Billboard adds Pech quoting that the shootings were caused by a lone gunman, who pulled the trigger, when denied entry to the club. He started to exchange fire with another person inside the club. The security personnel at the venue tried to stop the shooting. However, they succumbed to gunshot wounds instead.
The BPM Music festival has issued a statement on its Facebook Page following the horrific incident. As per the Facebook Post, BPM Festival has revealed that it is co-operating with officials following the incident, informs a The Guardian report. It added that the festival has been working closely with the authorities to ensure public safety. However, they are saddened by the violence and their thoughts and prayers are with all the victims, their families and all those affected by these tragic events.
