Google Inc Launches Nexus 5 along with its new Android ‘KitKat’

Google Inc Launches Nexus 5 along with its new Android KitKatGoogle Inc has launched its highly anticipated and well publicized Nexus 5. The new smartphone was unveiled at the same time as the latest update to Android. Not surprisingly, the new Nexus phone is the first ever device to have Android KitKat, the code name for its Android 4.4 mobile software.

The launch of Nexus 5 puts an end to all rumors and supposed leaks about what are believed and rumored to be the latest Google smart phones. The new handset, just like its predecessor, is also manufactured by LG Electronics. Analysts also think that the launch of the device could serve as an ideal time to rollout the Android KitKat.

The new smart phones would be available through the company’s Google Play store. It would initially be rolled out in the US, the UK, Canada, France, Australia, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, and South Korea. It would also be available soon in India.

Slimmest and fastest Nexus

Nexus 5 is described as the slimmest and fastest of all Nexus smartphones ever launched. It comes with a 4.95-inch display in full high definition. It is also lightweight at 136 grams or about 4.8 ounces. The phone is 8.59 millimeters thick. As expected, it has Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 with LTE mobile connectivity. Last year, Nexus 4 was a disappointment to many because it lacked this connectivity feature.

The smartphone has an 8-megapixel rear camera along with a 1.3-megapixel camera at the front. No wonder, it could take sharper photographs with more stable images. The battery is also impressive with longer life at 17 hours of continuous talk time or 8.5 hours on online browsing through Wi-Fi and 7 hours of browsing through an LTE network. Storage ranges from 16GB to 32GB.

The unlocked version would be available for $349. There is no word yet about how much it would cost when purchased along with a two-year subscription contract.

Android KitKat

Meanwhile, Android KitKat has an enhancement feature known as ‘Phone’ app. This makes it much easier to access various contacts and make phone calls. Its ‘Hangout’ app facilitates videoconferencing and stores MMS and SMS messages. The Google Now app is ideal for voice commands and search.

It is expected that many new devices from smartphone brands and manufacturers would follow suit in the use of the new Android. Several new handsets that are expected to be launched this season are believed to be running on KitKat as well.
