French Electronics Maker Archos Launches Three ‘Platinum’ Android Tablets

Archos Launches Three ‘Platinum’ Android TabletsArchos did not announce much at the IFA consumer technology show in Berlin last month. By now, we may realize that it was a strategy. The French consumer electronics firm has just unveiled three new Android devices that are part of its lineup of so-called Platinum tablets.

The three devices are all operating on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The trio also shares specific features. The Archos Platinum lineup boasts of dual-band Wi-Fi, high resolution screens, quad-core processors, and about 2GB of random access memory.

Those would also come with 8GB of memory. Archos Platinum tablets would feature 2 megapixels of rear-facing camera, mini HD port, micros card slot, Bluetooth, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and micros. As Android devices, users would be given full and instant access to Google Play Store. The three tablets would be released later this month.

The pricing strategy

There is no pricing scheme released for the three tablets, yet. But it is logical to expect the new Archos tablets to take lower tag prices. As usual, the price advantage to consumers would be its main competing feature against the likes of more popular devices like Apple Inc’s iPad and Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Tab.

Well-placed sources claimed that the lineup of Archos Platinum devices would take price ranges of about $199 to $349. In a statement, the company explained that it would continue to provide the consumers with innovative solutions and the best of portable technology market at the best and most practical prices possible.

Archos also intends to challenge the currently leading brands of tablets. It is a strategy for it to release high quality products featuring standard specs coupled with aesthetic design at lower prices. Certainly, these three new tablets would appeal to the budget conscious consumers out there.

Odd naming system

Some observers think that Archos has maintained its ridiculous system for naming products. But they agree that it is now much easier to distinguish the three tablets from each other as the names suggest their differences in screen size.

The 80b Platinum has a display that measures 8 inches with 1024 X 768 pixels of resolution. The 97b Platinum HD features 9.7 inches of screen with a resolution of 2048 X 1536 pixels. Lastly, 101 Platinum has, you may have guessed it right, 10.1 inches of screen with a traditional resolution of 1280 X 800 pixels.
